"All Movie Guide" review

A no-hold-barred Argentinean gore comedy that could well win a cult following among the tiny number of people not offended by its non-stop barrage of bad taste, Sadomaster gets a slightly glossier DVD presentation than one might expect in this release from SRS Cinema. Sadomaster has been transferred to disc in letterboxed format, cropped at the 1.85:1 widescreen format. The film was shot on digital video and clearly produced on a shoestring budget; the film frankly looks cheap, though to a certain extent this is one of its assets, as the threadbare special effects sometimes work for comic effect while more realistic gore would have made this film even harder for most audiences to take. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, and sounds slightly better than the film looks, though the incongruent sound effects editing is often laughable (though this is probably intentional, at least up to a point). The dialogue is in Portuguese, with optional subtitles in English and Portuguese (though the English subtitles are riddled with spelling and grammatical errors). As a bonus, this disc includes an interview with actor Leandro de la Torre, a trailer for the film, a filmography for director German Magarinos, a gallery of still images, and a music video featuring Argentinean punk band Vedette SS. Sadomaster is a film whose approach is going to appall more people than it attracts, but the presentation on this disc at least delivers the goods for the sort of folks who will enjoy this truly perverse splatter-fest. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
